picture time

Finally I can show you some pictures ( pics of the place I’m staying now will follow later on, I promise :) )
I now live in a small village called Urbanisacion Avila Morron. There is nothing in Belgium to compare it with (just watch the pictures I will post in a few days). It’s a very quiet and peaceful city at about an 15 minute drive from the big city, Chiclayo. Not may robberies here but still you have to be careful. When I go to Chiclayo I cant take to much money with me and I always have to be alert. The volunteers of AFS here have done a great job telling me all the different kinds of robberies that could occur. I didn’t sleep for 2 nights ;) just kidding.
People here are very hospitably and friendly but it’s like walking in a Zoo, except that you’re the one behind bares and everyone is watching at you. So far I only been called Gringo twice  . Really funny at first but after a while you feel the need to scream ‘Oh My God, yeah I’m with! Is that so special?!’. Lucky for them I have a rather solid self beheersing. In two days there is an other Belgian girl coming and she also will live in Funavi (other name for my village). Not longer the only wite one here then!
Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. You have 4 ways of public transportation:
Taxi: expensive and sometimes not reliable (you also have taxis from a firm who are reliable and cost even more)
Colectivo: a taxi with 5 people and driver (2people next to the driver!) Cheap but sometimes very uncomfortable …
Mototaxi: Like in Azia, motorcycles with 3 wheels. Cheap, good for short distances but safety not guaranteed.
Combi: What is used a lot and is like the bus or tram here in Belgium. Except here we are talking about a minibus, a van, packed with people. I will try to take some pictures next time (but walking around with a camera is kind of risky  I love this safety feeling!). You pay one Sol for a ride to the city center, very cheap. And all the time there is a man screaming out the window so that the people know where the combi is going. CRRRAZY! But I’m starting to love it.
